A Message From The Principal

Welcome to 109th Street Elementary School, home of the Shining Stars!  It is with great pride and joy that I am returning to the school where my career in education started 26 years ago.  I had the privilege of serving as a teacher, Instructional Coach and Assistant Principal at 109th Street Elementary during the first 14 years of my career.

This is my seventh year as a Principal in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve your children and you once again.  The elementary years are critical times of development for students – they set the foundation for college and beyond (it is never too early to begin planning for college).  Parents play a very important role in a child’s education.  Student learning, academic achievement, and overall success depend heavily on the partnership between parents and the school community.  Working together as partners is a top priority for me!

I encourage you to get involved at 109th Street Elementary School!  There are many opportunities to become a volunteer in our school community (in the classroom, library, main office, on the playground, in the cafeteria, etc.).  Most importantly, we want you to partner with us in the education of your child.  It is important that you stay informed about what your child is learning in school and how you can support their learning at home.  Our school needs your help and support – your role in the classroom is just as important as your role at home!

Warm regards,

Chrystal Battey-Brown
